Hello, Patyrn creators!

You’ve created a beautiful design, and it looks perfect on your screen. But the ultimate test of any repeating pattern is its seamlessness. When tiled, does it create a flawless, continuous image, or are there awkward lines and breaks that ruin the illusion?

Even the smallest misalignment can turn a professional design into an amateur one. That’s why we included the Pattern Checker, a powerful, easy-to-use tool designed to give you 100% confidence in your final product.

This guide will show you how to use the Pattern Checker to spot and fix any issues before you send your design to print.

Step 1: First, Export Your Pattern

The Pattern Checker works with a final image file, not your editable project. So, the first step is to export your finished pattern from the Patyrn editor. For best results, export it as a high-quality PNG or PDF.

Step 2: Navigate to the Pattern Checker

You can find this specialty tool in your main Account section. Click on your profile icon or name, and look for a link that says "Pattern Checker" or "Pattern Tester."

Step 3: Upload Your Design

Once you open the Pattern Checker, you'll see a simple upload prompt. Click the "Upload Pattern" button and select the image file you just exported.

The tool will instantly take your image and tile it across the screen, creating a large preview of how it will look when it repeats.

Step 4: Zoom In and Hunt for Seams

This is the critical step. The tiled preview might look perfect from a distance, but the real test is in the details. Use the Zoom Tool provided in the checker to get an up-close look at the "seams"—the edges where one tile meets the next.

Slide the zoom bar or use your mouse wheel to magnify the view and carefully inspect the horizontal and vertical connection points.

What to Look For:

  • Visible Lines or Gaps: Are there thin white or dark lines appearing where the tiles connect?
  • Cut-Off Elements: Do any of your design elements get awkwardly sliced in half at the edge?
  • Mismatched Colors: Is the color or lighting slightly different on one edge compared to the other?
  • Unnatural Repetition: When zoomed out, can you easily spot where the repeat begins and ends? A great seamless pattern hides its repetition.

Step 5: Fix and Re-Test

If you spot an error, don't worry! This is exactly what the checker is for.

  • Go back into the Patyrn editor and open the original design draft.
  • Adjust the elements along the edges of your canvas. Nudge them, rotate them, or use the alignment tools to ensure they match up perfectly.
  • Re-export the fixed design.
  • Upload the new version into the Pattern Checker and inspect it again.

Repeat this process until you can zoom in on any seam and see nothing but a flawless, continuous pattern.

Taking a few extra minutes to test your design in the Pattern Checker is the final step that separates good designers from great ones. It guarantees that what you send to the printer or publish online is a truly professional, seamless masterpiece.
