Hey, pattern makers!

We're thrilled to introduce a feature that will revolutionize the way you design: Multiple Selection. Gone are the days of adjusting items one by one. Now, you can select, move, align, and style multiple shapes, icons, and text boxes all at once.

This isn't just about saving time; it's about unlocking new levels of precision and creativity. Ready to become a multi-select master? Let's dive in!

What is Multiple Selection?

Multiple selection allows you to act on several items on your canvas simultaneously. Think of it as gathering a group of items to treat them as a single unit for actions like moving, aligning, or even deleting.

Selecting Multiple Items: Two Simple Methods

You have two easy ways to select more than one item on your canvas.

Let's walk through how to use it!

1. The "Shift + Click" Method

This is perfect for picking specific items, even if they aren't close to each other.

  • Select your first item by clicking on it.
  • Hold down the Shift key on your keyboard.
  • While holding Shift, click on other items to add them to your selection.
  • Clicked something by mistake? Simply Shift + click it again to remove it from the group.

2. The "Click and Drag" Method (Selection Box)

This method is incredibly fast for selecting multiple items that are grouped together in an area.

  • Click on an empty area of your canvas.
  • Hold and drag your mouse to draw a blue selection box.
  • Any item that the box touches will be included in your selection.
  • Release the mouse button, and your items are selected!

The Power of a Group: What You Can Do

Once you have multiple items selected, a whole new world of actions opens up in the control panel that appears at the top of your workspace.

Move, Resize, and Style Together

  • Move: Click and drag any item within the selected group to move all of them together.
  • Resize: Drag the corner handles of the selection bounding box to resize all items proportionally.
  • Style: Use the control panel to change the color or opacity of all selected items at once. It's a huge time-saver!

Align with Precision

Tired of manually eyeballing the alignment of your shapes? The alignment tools are your new best friend. With two or more items selected, you can:

  • Align Left, Center, or Right
  • Align Top, Middle, or Bottom

These tools align your selected items relative to each other, giving you a perfectly clean layout in a single click.

Distribute for Perfect Spacing

This is where the magic really happens. For selections of three or more items, you can automatically distribute them with perfect spacing.

  • Distribute Horizontally: Use the horizontal distribution slider in the control panel to adjust the spacing between items along the x-axis.
  • Distribute Vertically: Use the vertical slider to adjust the spacing along the y-axis.

This is ideal for creating orderly grids, lines of text, or any design that requires consistent, even spacing.

Group and Ungroup for Complex Designs

Sometimes you want to "lock" a set of items together to treat them as a single object. That's where grouping comes in.

  • Group (Ctrl/Cmd + G): With multiple items selected, click the "Group" button. This combines them into one item that can be moved, resized, and rotated as a single unit. This is fantastic for creating complex motifs that you want to duplicate and place around your pattern.
  • Ungroup (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + G): Click the "Ungroup" button to break a group back down into its individual components for further editing.

Pro-Tips for a Faster Workflow

And that's it! In just a few clicks, you've transformed your flat pattern into a tangible, professional-grade product mockup. The Mockup Studio is designed to be fast, intuitive, and fun, empowering you to showcase your work in the best possible light.

  • Quickly center a collection of items: Select multiple items, group them, and then use the "Center on Canvas" buttons to perfectly position your new group.
  • Create intricate motifs: Design a small arrangement of shapes and text, group them, and then duplicate the group to build your pattern quickly.
  • Right-Click for Speed: Right-clicking on a selection brings up a context menu with common actions like Group, Ungroup, Duplicate, and Delete.

We can't wait to see the incredible and complex patterns you'll create with the power of multiple selection. Jump into Patyrn, give it a try, and share your masterpieces with us!
